- Onions – Especially beneficial when eaten raw, onions contain antimicrobial sulfur compounds that destroy bacteria.
- Apples – The fibrous texture of an apple stimulates the gums. The action of eating the fruit creates saliva helping the mouth clear away harmful bacteria.
- Ginger – As a powerful anti-inflammatory, ginger helps protect against periodontal diseases that cause the loss of supportive connective tissue and bone in the mouth.
If you have painful gums, it’s best that you get to the dentist’s office as soon as possible. Stick to a routine of a dental appointment every six months and maintain a daily oral hygiene regimen.
