Whether or not you started the month off with a practical joke, you have all of April to celebrate National Humor Month. Who can’t get on board with something so fun and good for you? After all, laughter is the best medicine. Unfortunately, sometimes people are uncomfortable with big fits of laughter and wide grins. They’re self-conscious about their smiles. At Asheville Dental, we want nothing more than for you to love and laugh and we have cosmetic dentistry services to help you achieve the quality of life you deserve.
History of National Humor Month
Larry Wilde, an author and comedian, founded National Humor Month in 1976. Its purpose is to enlighten the public about the therapeutic value of laughter. Since April Fool’s Day kicks off the month and has been popular since the 19th century, the month of April is the perfect fit.
Why A Month of Humor?
The reason is to spread public awareness about the health benefits of humor, which include increased morale, better quality of life, and improved communication. Laughter also is incredibly important for reducing stress levels.
Short-term benefits include:
- The stimulation of organs
- More endorphins released by the brain
- Muscle relaxation
- Increase in circulation
- Lower stress levels
But I’m Sensitive About My Smile
This is not uncommon and you’re not alone! Lots of people have concerns about their smile. Maybe it’s a gap, or your teeth aren’t as white as you’d like, or you’re missing a tooth. There are many reasons you may not laugh quite as hard as others. At Asheville Dental, we offer free cosmetic dentistry consultations. To us, no one should feel ashamed of their smile. No one should miss out on belly laughs, giggles, and fun. No one should lack the health benefits that can be attained by laughter.
Some pearls of wisdom for this month of humor:
“Laughter is the shortest distance between two people.” – Victor Borge
“A day without laughter is a day wasted.” – Charlie Chaplin
May you all find moments to pause and share a good laugh with friends and loved ones.
