Radiation Safety

At Asheville Dental our utmost concern is our patient’s overall health.  We utilize every technological advantage to reduce any risk to our patients well being.  Using digital x-rays reduces the amount of radiation exposure by up to 90% compared to conventional x-ray film.  Anytime we are exposing a patient to radiation, that exposure should not be taken lightly.  With the advent of volumetric 3-D CT scans, in most cases the benefit of the scan outweighs the risk.  The use of 3-D scans allows to to more accurately place implants and drastically reduce the risk of placing an implant in a position that would be disadvantageous to the patient, and may reduce the extent of the surgery. While we would not recommend a scan for everybody, there are many situations which warrant the use of a 3-D CT scan.
